The House of Kong is a creative organisation and community house dedicated to supporting LGBTQIA+ artists, particularly artists of colour. Rooted in ballroom culture and Pasifika values of chosen family, the house develops:
• performance works
• community programs
• mentorship opportunities
• cultural collaborations
The House of Kong exists to build strong creative ecosystems where artists can grow, connect and lead.
Kween Kong (Thomas Fonua) is a Samoan-Tongan artist, performer and creative producer whose work spans contemporary dance, drag, theatre and cultural leadership.
Internationally recognised through RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under Season 2 and RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars, Kween Kong has built a reputation as one of the most powerful stage performers to emerge from the Pacific diaspora.
In 2024, Fonua made history as the first drag artist ever to be nominated for a prestigious Logie Award, marking a major milestone for queer and Pasifika visibility in Australian mainstream media.
Before drag, Fonua performed as a Principal Dancer with leading contemporary dance companies including Black Grace Dance Company, Australian Dance Theatre, and was a lead faculty member of international residencies such as the Indigenous Arts sector at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada.
Today, Kween Kong’s acclaimed career bridges international drag touring, television, theatre and community leadership, bringing Pacific excellence to global audiences. Fonua holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master’s in Cultural Leadership, grounding their artistic practice in both cultural strategy and industry impact.
Through The House Of Kong, Fonua produces large-scale performances, community programs and cultural initiatives that centre Pasifika identity, queer resilience and radical joy, while championing the next generation of trans, queer and BIPOC artists across Australia and beyond.
